Last night, Richard took us to one of his favorite bars, Freies Neukölln, to watch the election returns live from America on CNN. To my great surprise, the bar was packed with Germans (and a bunch of Americans) who were super pumped to watch the election. Naturally, since all Germans seem to love Obama, there was Yes We Can paraphernalia all over the place.
The most hilarious part of the evening, however, was when I looked across the room and saw someone who looks suspiciously familiar. She looked so much like a TA of mine from Northwestern, that I squished my way through the masses of people to get closer and see if it could possibly be her. When I finally got close enough to tell for sure, she looked up at me and was like, "Northwestern?" Indeed, it was my TA from Russian Lit, who now is working on her dissertation in Berlin. By random coincidence, she happened to be in the same bar as me, right around the corner from my house.
My very own crazy small world story... how glorious. =)
