Pow: Yesterday, I tried to do my very first load of laundry in my new (used) washing machine. It took me and Erin a good 20 minutes to figure out how to get it turned on and running in the first place, but once we did, I thought we were good to go. When it got to the end of the cycle, though, I couldn't get the door to open. It latches from the inside while it's running, and apparently the lock hadn't realized that the cycle had ended. So, I turned it back to run the end of the spin cycle again and was going to let it finish again in hopes that the door would unlock and I could get my clothes out. Instead of doing that, the electrical panel had a meltdown and the power to the whole machine was cut off. Naturally, the lock also didn't open. So now I have a broken washing machine and my clothes (including all of my jeans) are trapped wet inside.
Wow: Beautiful sunny warm happy day today. Church was great, as usual. There were 90ish people there today, up from 50 regulars when I left for the summer, which is pretty impressive growth. After church, a bunch of us went down to an election party that was going on in the building where we have our evening service. Somehow, I randomly ended up sitting next to a girl from Denmark who knows a friend of mine who used to be in my small group (who was also on study abroad last year in Berlin from Copenhagen). I had emailed this girl before when Miriam said her friend was coming, so it was funny to just run into her all of a sudden.
