Thanks to Maureen using her suitcase as a mobile grocery store for us, I had 2 whole cans of Libby's pumpkin at my disposal. But then, there's the question of crust. And the spices. And evaporated milk. Since there is no such thing as PIE in Germany (not real pie, anyway) and certainly no such thing as pre-made crusts, Erin and I resorted to making our own crust, which turned out remarkably delicious, in fact. The spices were easy once I figured out what they're called in German. And the evaporated milk got replaced with condensed milk that I'm pretty sure is intended for use as coffee creamer here...
No matter. The pie turned out delicious, as did the rest of our patchwork German Thanksgiving dinner. Third year in a row for me. Stu made a particularly masterful green bean casserole. No luck finding cranberry sauce that comes out in the shape of a can, but I guess I'll survive without that.
Side note: Since I last posted on this blog, not only did my internet connection finally get set up, I also turned 24. Happy birthday to me. :)
