I think there are more geese on our back lawn than there are people in St. Clair. They are FAST and hard to catch for a picture. I can't imagine why they wouldn't want to sit still for me to photograph them...
Port Huron is a quirky place. For one thing, there lamppost signs lining the streets downtown declaring it a "cool city," but there seems to be a grand total of 4 stores open in the whole city. Many of the buildings and store fronts have been recycled and reborn as new entities, but it takes some investigation to figure out exactly what they are--a nursing home in a hotel, a movie theater turned dance studio, one fancy bistro in an old brick building nestled between cheesy trinket shops, several stores that I could not for the life of me identify. Lots of store windows sit empty with fingerprint-smeared dust filmed over the glass. I couldn't swear by it, but I don't think that's a product of the recession. The place is well-worn. Like it's comfortable being eclectic and weird. I got lucky and caught the Port Huron High School homecoming parade while I was wandering around. Doesn't get much more American than marching bands, flatbed trucks pulling homemade floats, ponytailed cheerleaders prancing down the main street and giggly homecoming queen nominees waving from the back of convertibles. And here's an artsy-type self portrait by the river. I love the clouds.
